It looks like you may have mixed up the start codon and the end codon... I believe once translated, the start codon should read "TTC" and the end codon should also read "TTC". When I translated your sentence, I got "For we be in in me like to twist I after to were. That can't be right! Great effort though!
Lisa, The start codon for the RNA code is AUG and the stop codon is UAG. Once it's translated into DNA the start codon should be TAC and the stop codon should be ATC, which I do see in my DNA code. Antoher part of the assignment was to add a few bases to trick people into needing to find the start and stop codon. I added TAGT for my start base and GTC for my ending base. My sentence should read " Before sleep time, animals unusual(ly) like to twist odd tooth(teeth)."
Kylie, the only think I can figure is that you have a couple of mutations in the code that threw everything off. I do see your start codon, which is good. But when I divide the bases after that into codons, it throws off your stop codon so that it doesn't work. I also get a completely different set of words up to that point, with only "Before" coming through accurately, so I'm guessing the mutation (error) happened right in the next codon of the second word? Good corrections to Lisa. That would have put her on the right track if the mutations hadn't been there!
Lisa, make sure you understand the feedback from Kylie. The start codon wasn't supposed to be the first three letters. You had to go looking for it, just like the decoding enzymes really do during protein synthesis.
Here is my decode just for reference:
DNA: TAGTTACACAGTTATTTACTGCCGAACGCGCTAACGATCGTC RNA; AUCAAUGUGUCAAUAAAUGACGGCUUGCGCGAUUGCUAGCAG Codons: AUG UGU CAA UAA AUG ACG GCU UGC GCG AUU GCU AG (start) Before dream(ing) an (start) school us about confusing students us AG
You know what, as I went back to my word document that I had originally typed everything on before posting it, I did not put a U after an A. So it should've been AUCAAUGUGUCA"U"AUAAAUGACGGCUUCGCGAUUGCUAGCAG. That is what threw my sentence off.
